When I first walked into Savoy Cafe & Deli, I had a familia feeling with their home-style, comfortable decor, and gracious staff. The visual experience felt like a cross between the stress-free hours after a Thanksgiving dinner and walking onto a TV set where everyone knows your name. The mood is relaxed, casual, and full of happy customers. I just had to share where to eat in Santa Barbara for fellow food lovers and visitors that especially are traveling and need a quick healthy option.

I had both an emotional connection to the food stories of the owner's Paul and Kathy Shields and Food Network Guy Fieri's Diners Drive Ins and Dives Santa Barbara, who visited the cafe a few years ago. That lead me to order 'The Guy Plate,' the exact dish Guy ordered.

Hello, Pasilla Turkey Fritters, you are my favorite bite! Fritters are traditionally bits of batter-fried up, perhaps pastry or meat and vegetables. Savoy Cafe & Deli has reimagined the concept making it their most popular dish using Pasilla Peppers, fresh Jalapenos, and Pickled Jalapenos, accounting for the punch in the bud's flavor. The peppers complement the turkey with the sauce so perfect I could bathe my whole body in it.
The side dishes bring in the home run for 'The Guy Plate.' Green beans dressed in a delicious walnut basil pesto sing perfectly next to the quinoa salad full of flavor from mangoes and almonds. Who would turn down the incredibly moist and decadent signature carrot cake by the owner, Kathy?

A fan-favorite dish of Savoy is the Chicken Marsala, not pictured because my husband's favorite is their Beef Stroganoff. He eats it like it's his last meal. The stroganoff is what you wish your stroganoff tasted like if you attempted to make it at home. Noodles are al dente, beef complex in flavor, and velvety sauce. I am also a fan of their quiche with the buttery crust. I'm seriously thinking of ordering the whole pie, serving it at home, and calling it my own! Who would know, right?
If you are searching on google for breakfast Santa Barbara options, look no further. Savoy Deli has a wonderful menu and outrageously delicious pastries that I can eat with all my weird tolerances. I still remember the Eggs Benedict I ordered a few years ago, and it sounds like I need to return for a future post.

AuthorI learned to experiment and to be adventurous with cooking from my good friend Marcia who is like a second Mom to me. She has greatly influenced my life creatively, and in so many other ways too. I remember when I was young, thinking how hip she is by cooking with fresh herbs during a time when everybody ate packaged foods. She is inventive, loved natural ingredients, and is ahead of her time. Please follow my blog posts to help support small businesses and entrepreneurs and remember to shop local.
