The fundraising event was a different kind of competition held on the weekend of the traditional Super Bowl football weekend, and this one makes a difference in the lives of Northern New Mexico. The Food Depot of Santa Fe, New Mexico, holds the annual event to raise funds for families in need. Soup was the language of love with approximately 1,200 attending ready to sample the 24 different chef creations. It was a tough assignment to blog about, but I was happy to take on the delectable task.

With all donations and events, The Food Depot serves four meals for every $1.00 raised! Every month they provide 440,000 meals to seniors, families, and children experiencing hunger. They even have a program for pets.

Best Cream Soup Winner went to Del Charro at the Inn of the Governors for their Green Chile Chicken Chowder. Chicken Chowder never tasted so good! The traditional southwestern green chili was a dynamic pairing with what you would expect in a perfect chicken chowder. My husband says he is bringing a bowl next time... enough of the little cups! HA!

Nothing warms my heart more than giving back to communities and helping those in need. I could tell by all the chefs who participated in the Souper Bowl Fundraiser that they cared.  Yes, winning gives you bragging rights and publicity, but the event's atmosphere was more about love. You could taste it by those who cooked, feel it by those who volunteer and see it by those who came.
